✸ABout Sam✸

Sam Babineau is a songwriter and fiddle player hailing from the South Coast of Massachusetts. She enjoys engaging with personal narratives that echo the storytelling found in traditional folk music, blended with a modern zest. Her introduction to Irish playing began with her involvement in Irish step at the age of 10. Since then, she has adapted her background of fiddle music to support her songwriting. She finds inspiration in artists with deep folk roots such as The Staves and Lady Maisery.

"Sam sets her hypnotizing voice above bowed, strummed, and plucked fiddle self-accompaniment that’s fresh, new, and exciting. With a background in traditional Celtic fiddling, she has a keen sense of roots even in her most intrepid forays into new sonic territory."

Currently, Sam works closely with The Collective NB, a nonprofit arts organization based in New Bedford that aims to provide innovative, accessible, artistic experiences to the community. She also plays with “Pebbles of Rain”, an ensemble led by Jeff Angeley of Southcoast Lessons, that unites authentic Old Time Fiddle music with original compositions and songs. In addition, you may find her performing on a wee stump in the heart of Carvershire at King Richard’s Faire, or by the fire at Ansel’s Cafe with a cup of cinnamon rose coffee close by.

Sam has been teaching violin and voice lessons for 4 years now. She has guided students of various ages as they work towards their musical goals. She takes a supportive approach, encouraging students to explore what motivates them most, while helping them develop the tools they need to approach all genres.
